Yiolanti Maou

I am a legal researcher, lecturer, and dual-qualified practitioner with a background in cross-border commercial and corporate litigation.

I hold an Adjunct Lecturer position at the School of Law of the University of Nicosia, and I am an Associate Researcher at the University’s Procedural Law Unit.

I have written on civil procedure, private international law, the use of artificial intelligence in civil adjudication, and legal informatics. My work has appeared in Cypriot and European commentaries, including the first scholarly commentary on the Cypriot Civil Procedure Rules, with further work forthcoming in the Journal of Private International Law and the Edward Elgar EAPIL series.

As part of my academic work, I have also advised the Cyprus Bar Association on the governance of legal information in Cyprus, and appeared before committees of the House of Representatives, contributing to parliamentary discussions on judicial and civil procedure reform.

My training and practice span three jurisdictions: England and Wales, where I read law and later cross-qualified as a Solicitor; the United States, where I completed my LLM; and Cyprus, where I have practised as an Advocate in commercial and corporate litigation. I draw on all three continually, bringing to my research a comparative appetite, a measure of pragmatism, and (usually) a pull towards questions on which academic and practitioner interests converge.
